Mophie Juice Pack Air – You need the power!
I think probably every iPhone owner has experienced a time when, after a day of using their beloved mobile phone, it’s battery runs dry. The iPhone has always advertised pretty descent battery life specifications, however in the real world, that’s far from the case. The Juice Pack is a line of cases for your iPhone or iPod touch that have a built-in battery, the Juice Pack Air is the smallest, thinnest battery pack that Mophie sell.

After unboxing the Juice Pack, you’ll be greeted with the case itself, a mini USB cable and some simple instructions. The case itself has a 30-pin dock connector built in, to provide power to your iPhone, a toggle switch to turn the battery pack on or off, a mini USB slot and finally, battery indicator lights to let you know how much battery power is left. To be honest, trying to fit all that into a case that is incredibly thin, is a mighty achievement on Mophie’s part.
The case itself is made from very durable hard plastic and provides very good protection for your iPhone. It does add a little weight and thickness to your iPhone, but the case can be removed when not required.
Mophie does ship the Jucie Pack with a little battery power, but only enough to last about 30 minutes – however, the instructions do recommend that you charge it for (INSERT) before using it regularly. When you’re done, just slide it onto your iPhone and you’re off.
The Jucie Pack has two different ways that you can power your iPhone, you can either choose to feed off the Juice Pack battery first and then the iPhone’s, or use the iPhone battery and then use the Juice Pack to charge it up. Either way, Mophie states that you should be able to get at least (Insert times of stuff here), and while that may seem a bit far fetched, it was in fact, nearly bang on. Usually, through constant use, my iPhone will last about a day before needing to be recharged, when using the Juice Pack Air, my battery lasted almost two days, and even longer without thorough use.
One of the really handy features of the Juice Pack Air is that you can charge its battery, as well as your iPhone’s simultaneously, using the micro USB cable supplied in the box. Just like your iPhone, you can either charge it using your computer or a mains adapter, which is what I did, using the Apple USB Power Adapter. Of course, it is going to take slightly longer to charge your battery – as you’re having to charge two, but it is handy that you can charge them up both simultaneously.
However, with all the positives, there has to come a negative (and one of the only negatives I managed to find with this device) – the Juice Pack Air uses up the iPhone’s 30 pin dock connector, meaning that some accessories you may have, might not work with the Juice Pack on, it is something minor.
Reader Question: Would you suggest any other backup battery packs for your devices? Any that can compare to this beautiful piece of work.
