Spotify for the iPhone

icn_spotify_128So we all know about Spotify, at least us living in Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, France and Spain, and we know that Spotify released a mobile version of it’s program for the iPhone to the app store with full access to the Spotify catalog. However, you do need a premium account to use it. So is it worth the money? Well, I thought I would give it a spin and tell Appyourmac readers what I think.

When you log into the application for the first time you are greeted with a list of your playlists from Spotify.  From there you can play, remove or sync playlists. Sycing your playlists instead of simply streaming them from the net means they will be available if you are on a slow connection or don’t have any connection at all. I am using the iPhone 3G and I have to say that streaming using 3G is quite good, it is uninterrupted with only a short pause before a song plays to buffer. However the same can not be said for some very slow wifi contentions and Edge, so if you are using the 2G iPhone, you should sync all of your playlists for best results.

Aside from the playlists, you can also search for tracks, albums and artists, which is a great feature when your out and about, because you can listen to new music right there and add it to a playlist. The playback it self is the best part, it looks just like the iPod app. The sound quality is superb and the album art is clear and crisp. Unfortunately, however, when you return to the spring bored, the app closes and the song you are listening to stops. Apart from that the entire app is very well designed and lives up to the great designs that have made Spotify one of the best music programs out there.

Thank you for reading, and here are some screenshots of the app in action!
