Simplify Media: Your Streaming Music Server
Though iTunes offers a sharing feature, it only goes so far. So, what if you want your music everywhere? Well, here is your solution. Simplify Media makes sharing music over the air incredibly easy. You can host your entire library and share with up to 30 other users. Simplify Media also saves space on all of your macs. All other macs besides the one you’re hosting on don’t have to have the music stealing space on their hard drives.
When you first install it, it will ask you to setup an account with them and also specify your computer’s name. After you’ve filled out this information, you’re ready to start streaming your library. When you press continue, the program will ask you what content you want to add to your stream. Just select what you want and you’re all setup.
Now you probably want to let others access your content. To do this, go to your control panel and click “Invite”. Now you can send an email to either your other systems or your friends that you want to access your library. All they have to do is click on the link in the email and setup Simplify on their computer. If they already have Simplify Media setup, they can just add your username.
Now, you’re only allowed to share with a total of 30 friends so you might want to moderate who is and isn’t allowed to share your library. Don’t worry, there is a feature in the preferences that allows you to delete users from your server.
Also, if you only want to share some of your library, you can open the preferences pane and select the “Music Sharing” tab. You can select the sharing type: Share nothing, Share iTunes or share your music folder. And then you can get even more detailed by either sharing your whole library or just certain folders or playlists.
So if you’re the kind of person who likes to get music on the go and save a good deal of hard drive space while you’re at it, this is a great application for you. You can download Simplify Media directly from there site for free.
