Read it later: For those websites you don’t have time to read

Are you someone who comes across a massive amount of websites but never has the time to read them? Do you find that your bookmarks folder is full of websites that have only been viewed once or twice? Do you wish you could just organize your bookmarks folder into categories but just couldn’t be bothered? Then you need to download Read It Later ; a simple yet powerful FireFox extension that allows you to organize your bookmarks that have to be read only once and never again.

Read it later is a fantastic FireFox plug-in that allows you to temporarily bookmark a web page for later viewing.  Web pages are opened from a special “read it later” list and they are automatically removed when opened. By having this application, you don’t have to fill your bookmarks with those “read only once” websites.

This plug-in can be downloaded and installed very easily from the FireFox add-ons web page. Once it’s added, you now have a new menu option when right-clicking on a web link.  the new option is to “add to read it later list”. Items can also be added to the read it later list by clicking on the tick which appears in the address bar.

Sometimes you are sent a web-page from a friend or you will come across one from Facebook or Twitter. Obviously it’s not practical to bookmark the page because you don’t have the time to read it. Some people will jot this down into their phones or write it on a post note. The easiest option however is to add it to a new list of items that are shown up as “read it later items”

Having this very handy list in the top right hand corner is what makes this application so worthwhile. All you have to do is click on the book icon and this will randomly bring up one of your saved items. That’s all there is to it ; no entering web addresses at all. The beauty of the application is that once the web-page opens up it is automatically removed from the list. If you don’t get to read the entire page simply click on the tick in the web address bar and it remains once again in the list.

Read it later can be synchronized for multiple computers. The list is synchronized to an online server using a personalized username and password. Then, when you are setting up your application on another computer, you retrieve your list from the server. It’s an ingenious idea that really works.

Items added to your list can also be viewed as an RSS feed. This means that it can be used with Google Reader or any other news feed application. Everything is perfectly organized.

Overall this is one Firefox addon that you will never understand how you did without. It’s a must have. Read It Later can be found on the Firefox Add-ons page.
