Mactracker – Find information on every Apple Product

Mactracker is an application that has a permanent place in my dock. It contains extensive information on every Apple product ever made, including Desktops, Notebooks, Servers, Devices and Software.

All-in-all, Mactracker is a very handy and lightweight application. It contains a vast database of over 490 Apple products, and with its uncluttered interface, makes finding the product you want very easy.

The left hand side pane of the main window contains all the categories of the Mactracker database. You can search through All Models, a Timeline, Desktops, Notebooks, Servers, Devices and Software. You can also set-up and search through Smart Categories, My Models (Contains all the Apple products you own) and This Mac (Contains relevant information on the Mac you are currently using).

Each of the information windows about a particular product include gerneral information, specifications and a history of the product. In some cases, it also includes Geekbench Benchmarks and Startup chimes. There’s also a pane for you to add any more notes, or to send mistakes and database corrections to Mactracker HQ.

Mactracker comes in really handy when you’re starting to upgrade your Mac with larger hard drives and more memory. Mactracker lets you know how much memory a certain computer can handle and what hard drive interface is required.

Mactracker has dozens of other cool features that haven’t been documented here, but one of the best things about this application, is that its completely free. Mactracker offers a great deal of information at your fingertips about every Mac, iPod, Xserve and other Apple product on the planet, and is well worth a download.

Mactracker is available for both Mac and Windows and can be downloaded from the developers website. There’s also a native iPhone/iPod touch version thats available for download from the App Store (iTunes Link).
