NewsFire: RSS for Everyone

NewsFire IconNewsFire is an RSS Reader that allows you to stay up to date on your favorite websites and their content all in a simple to use, beautiful and intuitive interface. NewsFire delivers the polished experience you’d expect from a Mac application – and its free!

When you open NewsFire for the first time, you’ll see that a few news feeds have been added during installation, you can always delete them, but its handy to have them there so you can get a general feel for the application. If you have been using a different RSS Reader, you can always import all your feeds into NewsFire with no fuss.

The NewsFire window is split into two main areas, the menu on the right where all your feeds are displayed, and the feed content displayed in the center. NewsFire leaves most of its space for the content of the webpage which makes it very easy to use. NewsFire also displays the number of unread articles beside each feed, and offers easy tools to edit feeds, mark them as read and refresh them manually. The feeds area also includes a New Items smart feed, this is where all new articles are placed until you read them – another very handy feature. You can also add folders and colour code your feeds to be super organised.

NewsFire also needs no interaction from your mouse, instead you use your keyboard to do most of the work. Simply press the Spacebar to jump to a new story or article, and use the arrow keys to skip back and forth through previous articles. Not only is it very easy, it’s also very quick to read articles from your favorite website. Also, if you ever want to go straight to the website, or view a link in the article – all you need to do is click it, and it will open up in your default browser in the background. This is particularly useful for feeds that only display a short summary of the article.

NewsFire can be downloaded from the Developers Website, who also makes some other fantastic applications, including Xtorrent, Inquisitor and Acquisition.
