Foof-nomenal: Foof Black as Night Macbook Sleeve Review

Foof 1Many cases that Macbook owners purchase to protect their laptop is the generic Macbook sleeve made with neoprene and has a bland color.  Nevertheless, there is one Macbook sleeve unlike any other which adds style and maximum protection; this sleeve is the Foof Black as Night Macbook sleeve.  Its interior and exterior texture make the sleeve attractive, but it provides sufficient security to make sure that your Macbook receives proper bump and shock protection.

The unique feature of the Foof sleeves is that they are made with very unique and high quality fabrics; some of them include acrylic tuft, 100% Irish tweed wool, and even corduroy.  Having said that, the Foof Black as Night Macbook sleeve is made with black widewale corduroy, while the inner lining of this sleeve is made with sherpa fleece.  Both fabrics are very smooth and plush.  It’s as though my sleeve is sitting on clouds.  Furthermore, the corduroy exterior, in my opinion, gives the sleeve a very trendy look.

The sleeve also has no zippers, meaning that you simply slide you Macbook through the sleeve,.  I feel that there are pros and cons to this.  The pros are that you never have to worry about a zipper getting caught and an open end ensures easy insertion of the Macbook into the sleeve.  However, the con of no zippers is that it leaves the laptop exposed to dirt and dust on one side.  For example, if I insert my Macbook in my Foof sleeve with the USB and Firewire ports exposed, dust can enter the holes.  If you place the Macbook in a messenger bag with the sleeve on, dust is not likely going to enter.  But if you carry your Macbook outdoors with you Foof sleeve on, there’s a possibility that dirt, dust, and anything else aerial can enter the ports.

Foof 2

My overall view of the Foof Black as Night Macbook sleeve is very positive.  I really enjoyed the soft texture of the sleeve, but I was pleased to know that such natural fabrics are just as effective in protecting the Macbook as neoprene sleeves.  The corduroy look was also very appealing because it gives a casual appearance to the sleeve.  Also, when I slipped the sleeve onto my Macbook, it was rather snug.  But after a few uses, the sleeve breaks in and makes it easier to put your laptop into the sleeve.  Again, my only criticism of the Foof Black as Night Macbook sleeve is that there isn’t a zipper, but it’s not something that is absolutely necessary.

Foof, which is based in Australia, sells this Macbook sleeve for $26.  Sizes vary, so if you own a 17″ Macbook Pro, you can buy the Foof sleeve in the appropriate size.  The Black as Night sleeve is also available as an iPod sleeve made to fit an iPod or iPhone; this sleeve retails at $14.  Foof also has other sleeves in different colors and designs and made with different materials.  Nevertheless, if you’re looking for the simple but hip sleeve for your Macbook or your iPod, Foof is the sleeve for you.

Dust in the ports would only be a problem if you live in a wind blown desert region, in which case you’d probably not be carrying your macbook outside :) Having said that, I’ve used my MacBook with a foofbag in the desert with absolutely no side affects at all.
