VectorDesigner logoVectorDesigner – made by TweakerSoft – is a vector drawing application built exclusively for Mac OS X. It boasts some astounding features which allow you to quickly and easily create your own graphics. It also has several extra features which help it stand out from the crowd.

The foundations of any graphics created in VectorDesigner are shapes. VectorDesigner contains several basic shapes from which to build your graphics. Once a basic shape has been inserted, it can be edited thoroughly – with both basic default editing tools, or by completely manipulating the points of the shape – so that it does not resemble it’s original form at all. Users can even add in points to their shapes, this means that users are not at the mercy of the default shapes when it comes to creating their graphics. Starting with just some simple shapes, VectorDesigner allows users to create some fairly sophisticated graphics.

In addition to being able to manipulate shapes beyond recognition, VectorDesigner also does a good job when it comes to working with text. Once text has been inserted, it can be made to follow the path of both the inside and the outside of a shape. Although this sounds simple, the results it produces are rather impressive. Users can choose the spacing of their text, as well as it’s position along it’s designated path. Once again, this does sound like a simple feature, but the results that it can produce are absolutely astounding.

All of the aforementioned features would be rendered useless if the user interface of VectorDesigner was complicated to use. Fortunately, this is not a problem. A basic application window is well organised and simple to navigate. The most commonly used tools are located in a toolbar towards the top of the window, the inspector window is usually situated to the right hand side of the screen. This leaves a large amount of screen space for the graphics that you are creating.

VectorDesigner comes with several extra features which are definitely beneficial to the user. One of these is Scanner integration, which, as the name suggests, allows users to use their scanner to import images and graphics into VectorDesigner. VectorDesigner also features a Flickr browser; which gives users the ability to fetch textures and images from Flickr, and incorporate them into their project.

VectorDesigner is a brilliant application. All of it’s basic features are implemented well, and it contains several extra features to improve the application further still. It features a user interface which allows users to create exactly what they want in an efficient manner. The designs created in VectorDesigner can be used for posters, brochures and web-graphics, to name just a few. At a price of $69.95, VectorDesigner is a feature rich application at a reasonable price, and a worthy buy for anyone.

Does look pretty good. GIMP is a great alternative to something like Photoshop or this. And it’s free :)

Good review though!

I don’t agree that GIMP is an alternative to VectorDesigner because GIMP is for raster graphics, while VectorDesigner is for vector graphics. Two different design methodologies.
