Give your Mac a spring cleaning with CleanMyMac

CleanMyMac logoThere’s approximately a month left until spring ends and it’s likely that you haven’t done your annual “spring cleaning” yet.  Why not get a head start by cleaning your Mac?  It’s probably been due for a cleaning for quite a long time, anyway.  You have no reason to worry my friends, because CleanMyMac is a great application to use.  It will surely clean any old software or caches that slows down your computer’s performance and memory.

The homepage of CleanMyMac is laid out very organized and neat.  When you open the program, it tells you the last time you’ve cleaned your Mac, how much old data you’ve collected from your last scan (this number is only given if you conduct a scan while the program is open), and the cumulative amount of data that is cleaned from your computer.  Other information CleanMyMac CleanMyMac Screenshot 1provides is the version number of your program, the name of the user using the program, and the last time you updated the software.  On the left hand side of the window, there is a sidebar that contains all the items or locations that CleanMyMac cleans.  To run down the list, the applications scans for old caches (you have the option of scanning user and/or system caches), logs (user and/or system), language files, univeral binaries, and widgets.  What’s interesting about the widgets section is that it even has a built-uninstaller, so you can delete any widget that you consider to be a nuisance or useless.

Furthermore, CleanMyMac has an option called “Quick Erase.”  To use this, simply click on the “Quick Erase” tab and drag your unwanted file into the window.  When it comes time to delete the CleanMyMac Screenshot 3file, the process of scan and removing data will delete your file.  And finally, perhaps my favorite part of CleanMyMac is that it has a built-in application uninstaller.  Just like the “Quick Erase” option, simply click on the “Applications” option and drag your unwanted application into the window.

The process of scanning the system for this old data is very simple, as well.  Once you have selected which portions of data you want to be scanned, simply click the “Scan” button on the bottom left-hand corner and CleanMyMac will kick into gear.  To know when your system is being scanned, the bars underneath each checked item will be blue.  As the scan progresses, it will tell you the accumulated amount of old data that was found your system.  Once the scan is completed, you can remove this data by clicking “remove” button on the bottom right-hand corner of the window.  At this point, you will see green bars below each checked item indicating that the old data is being purged from your system.

After testing this product out multiple times, I realized that this was the application that I needed to enhance my Mac’s performance.  After just using this application one time, I had more space on my hard drive and my applications launched faster than before.  I even browsed on the Internet faster than before.  What I also felt that was convenient was the fact there’s an application uninstaller built-into the application.  I know that there are programs like AppZapper out there, but having system cleaner AND an application remover built-in together is very impressive.

CleanMyMac, which was created by one of our sponsor’s Macpaw, is available for download on their website.  They have many options to choose from, however.  You can download a trial version, but it will only scan for 200 MB.  You can also download the full version of the software, but Macpaw offers licenses for certain periods of time.  If you want a license that’s valid for 6 months, it’s $19.95.  A 1-year license costs is $29.95.  A 2-year license is $49.95.  Perhaps their best offer is a lifetime license for $50, and they’ll give you MacHider for free.  To learn more about MacHider, read our review of it from a month ago.  Therefore, if you want to enhance your Mac’s performance and hard drive space, go with CleanMyMac.  You won’t be disappointed.
