MacHider: Hide files on your Mac
Need to keep certain files on your Mac private? MacHider has the solution for you! MacHider is a very useful application that will hide any file or document on your computer, and password protect access to that file or document. This application can be very useful for protecting information on your computer, that if in the wrong hands, could have serious consequences.
MacHider has a very simple interface, when launched (once configured properly) you will be asked for a password, once the correct password is entered a “finder” looking window appears. This is where you can drag and drop files and documents you wish to protect, and organize them into various folders inside of MacHider. You can then choose to make these folders or documents “visible” or “hidden”. If they are hidden, no one will be able to find the documents or folders on your Mac (though still search-able through spotlight, would like to see that changed in the next release).
MacHider, when running, also puts a handy icon, with a drop down menu, in the tool bar where you can easily hide / unhide documents and folders. MacHider also has the ability to install a plug-in for Finder that allows even quicker access to hide / unhide features (right click on folder/document, then go to “more”). In addition to the spotlight issue, I would like to see MacHider better integrate into Finder, and not require the program to launch every time you want to hide a file or document.

MacHider is a great application for those that have the need to secure certain files and documents on their Mac. I know from a business point of view, that if files off of your computer fall into the wrong hands, the liability can be serious. MacHider is yours for the low cost of $19.95, a small price to pay for peace of mind!
